Picturesque ruins of large 14th C. castle very close to house

Le Foret de St. Aubin

Large forest containing the above chateau. Open to the public for hiking and picnicking

Fortified town/church with good 16th C. glass very near to house. Historic center of British/Bretagne alliance against France. Some medieval walls and historic church in town.

Dinard

Beautiful 19th C Victorian seaside resort with many restaurants and a casino. Great views of St. Malo

Worth a detour - Fort and Ramparts as well as restored 17th century city. Ferries to Southhampton, Channel Islands, etc. Very lively market town with large harbor and great restaurants.

Cancale

Very attractive and scenic seaport town - many good restaurants (try Tri Briez)

Dinan

Worth a detour - Beautiful, well-preserved medieval upper town and picturesque port in lower town. Many good restaurants and cafés in port.

Mont St. Michel

Worth an extensive detour - 10th-14th century, multi-layered cathedral sited on an island. Most visited site in France for tourists and pilgrims so go early in the morning (1 to 1-1/2 hour drive) and spend the day savoring the views and the levels of medieval romanesque and gothic construction. Picturesque town featuring a beautiful and well-preserved medieval fortress and a Doll Museum with dolls from the 15th through 20th century

Parish Closes

Fascinating and rare (only about 12 remain) 16th C enclosed churches generally with ossuaries and elaborately decorated calvaries. Very worth the trip (1-2 days) if you have the time.

Nantes

Worth-while two-day trip to Breton capital. Large town with markets, museaums, shopping, etc.
